February 11, 2022
Dear CUSD 201 Families,
CUSD 201 is still requiring masks to be worn in our schools. The District partly made this decision because CUSD 201 is not named in the lawsuits, and the defendants appealed the Circuit Court ruling to the Appellate Court. The Appellate Court will decide on the appeal by February 17.
While some of our school community are very happy with the District’s decision, others are very unhappy. The COVID-19 pandemic has been difficult to navigate for our community, parents, students, and schools. I appreciate your patience as we navigate another challenging time.
The CUSD 201 Board of Education has tentatively scheduled a Special Board Meeting for February 17. At the time of the meeting, the Board will know the appellate court’s decision. The Board will review and discuss plans to begin peeling back some mitigations, including masks. Information on the Special Board Meeting will be posted early next week.
As a school district, we have always prioritized the health and safety of our students and employees. We have prioritized in-person learning. To date, we have been able to accomplish both of our priorities.
Information about our students’ vaccination status is valuable as we decide COVID-19 mitigations. If your child is fully vaccinated, please upload an image of the vaccination card in Skyward. Once you log into Skyward, there is a link you will use to upload the card. The information will be kept confidential.
CUSD 201 is asking parents to complete the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. The survey results provide valuable information to our school and are included in the school report card. We also use the data to guide some of our decision-making. The survey closes on March 11, 2022. Illinois 5Essentials Survey

The average positivity rate for our community is 6.40%. The county is still exceeding 350 new cases per 100,000 and has a positivity rate of 6.93%.
