Safe Schools

District 201 is committed to the safety and security of students, staff and visitors. The District has developed a Safety and Crisis Team, which includes members of Westmont Fire and Police departments, along with District Administrators.

Communicating in a Crisis

The following communication channels are available to keep our District families and staff informed about District emergencies, including snow days and cold weather days:

  • The CUSD 201 District website at https://www.cusd201.org/ The District will have Emergency notifications visible on the homepage.
  • Listen for automated calls from school.
  • Watch for an email and text message sent from School Now or Parent Link.
  • Use the Emergency Closing Center's Resources. ECC allows users to sign-up for email alerts when a facility changes its status to "Closed,"

Snow Days / Cold Weather Days

At CUSD 201 we do our best to keep schools open, but there are days when severe weather prohibits us from having students and staff travel safely to school. The District will consult with the bus companies, CUSD 201 Maintenance and Grounds, and various local agences when deciding if they need to declare schools be closed or have a late arrival time. Families and staff should watch for updates from the school regarding school closures and if it will be considered an emergency day (no school/no e-learning) or if it will be an e-learning day.

Required Drills

Each school year, CUSD 201 conducts a series of drills to help prepare students and staff for an emergency. The drills are as follows:

  • (3) Fire / Evacuation Drills - 1 of these drills will include active participation with the Westmont Fire Department
  • (1) Lockdown Drill with the participation of Westmont Police Department
  • (1) Bus Evacuation Drill
  • (1) Severe Weather Drill
