October 23, 2020
Dear CUSD 201 Families,
The number of cases of COVID-19 and the positivity rate has increased in DuPage County. The DuPage County Health Department has changed the transmission level from moderate to substantial (DCHD School Metrics). The District has been using the DCHD Return to School Framework. To guide our decision making to determine when conditions are conducive to in-person learning.
On Monday, October 19, 2020, the DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) moved DuPage County from the moderate transmission level to substantial transmission. The number of new cases per 100,000 increased from a weekly average of 79 to an average of 115. Also, the positivity rate has risen from 4.5% to 6.0%. The District has been using the DCHD Return to School Framework to assist us in our decision making.
As communicated on Monday, the District has decided to pause in-person learning starting the week of October 26 and transition to remote learning. These are not easy decisions, and I know that this is disappointing for many of us, including our staff. The District will remain in remote learning for two weeks. During this time, the District will review its hybrid learning practices and COVID-19 protocols that are currently in place. As a District, we will determine if we can resume hybrid learning at a higher transmission level.
The hope is that after a two-week pause, the District will be able to resume hybrid learning. Your child’s school will be providing additional information regarding remote learning. During remote learning, we will bring in small groups of students, your child’s school will share the timeline for bringing in small groups of students.
Please read the entire communication for additional updates.
