8th Grade Literacy
About Me
My journey in higher education began at Northern Illinois University where I earned my BA in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University. Upon graduation, I began substitute teaching in multiple districts in the surrounding area. I was substituting in CUSD 201 and was presented the opportunity as a long-term substitute in 2005. I have been serving the CUSD 201 community ever since! In 2008, colleagues and I undertook a master's program through Concordia University and I graduated with an MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Currently, I teach 8th Grade Honors Literacy, 8th Grade Literacy, and Reading Intervention during e-period.
During literacy, we work hard to integrate the 21st Century skills within the school day and develop instructional units that are connected to the Common Core Learning Standards for our 8th-grade students.
I enjoy working with the students inside and outside of my classroom environment. I have coached Junior Varsity Volleyball and have been a leader at Snowball, Snowflake and Snowflurry. I am a teacher-leader at Outdoor Education and a chaperone of the 8th Grade Washington DC trip.
