Westmont High School recognized for student success in the Advanced Placement program while broadening access.
Westmont, IL – College Board announced that Westmont High School in Westmont, IL has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning GOLD distinction.
The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Westmont High School had 75% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 49% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 32% of seniors who took five or more AP exams!
Westmont High School currently offers 21 different AP classes, allows students to take any AP exams of other AP classes that are not currently taught at WHS, and employs 12 high school educators who provide AP instruction.
Dr. Kevin Weck - “While it is essential to offer a well-rounded education that caters to the diverse needs of our students, a strong Advanced Placement program serves as the cornerstone of academic excellence. It not only challenges our students at Westmont High School to reach their highest potential, but also provides them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to excel in college and beyond. Our AP program not only elevates the academic standards of our school, but also equips our students with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly competitive and complex world”.
“AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools have shown that they can expand access to these college-level courses and still drive high performance – they represent the best of our AP program.”
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
